General information

Ibopamine is a dopamine derivative that has been studied in patients with congestive heart failure [ ] and has been used as a preoperative mydriatic for cataract surgery [ ] and to treat chronic refractory ocular hyptotony, although it often causes ocular irritation [ ].

Some of the adverse reactions to ibopamine can be considered to result from its pharmacological actions. Its gastrointestinal effects can be interpreted as being dopaminergic in nature, occasional dizziness, flushing, and tremor as beta 2 -adrenoceptor agonist effects, and tachycardia as an effect of beta 1 -adrenoceptor stimulation or a reflex response to beta 2 -adrenoceptor agonism.
