General information

Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic drug used in eye-drops as a mydriatic. It can cause both local [ ] and systemic adverse reactions [ , ].

Seizures have occasionally been reported after the use of cyclopentolate [ ], as has dysarthria [ ], in one case accompanied by an inability to walk, disequilibrium, and disorientation in a 4-year-old boy [ ].

  • A 55-year-old man lost consciousness after receiving topical cyclopentolate hydrochloride 1% for routine fundoscopic examination; an MRI scan showed a midbrain hemorrhage [ ].
