Walking Thoughts

  • What is the patient’s neurological exam?

  • What is the patient’s vision now and how quickly did it deteriorate?

  • Was the patient evaluated by ophthalmology for papilledema?

  • What other symptoms is she having?

  • What is the patient’s pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) history? How and when was she diagnosed?

  • What treatments has she tried for her PTC (e.g. acetazolamide, serial lumbar punctures)?

  • Does the patient have venous sinus stenosis?

  • What are the patient’s medical comorbidities?

  • If she needs a shunt, does the patient have any contraindications for ventriculoperitoneal, lumboperitoneal, or ventriculoatrial shunting (e.g. multiple abdominal surgeries, Chiari malformation, bacteremia, abnormal venous anatomy, prior jugular or subclavian thrombosis, cardiac irritability)?
