Diftalone was an anti-inflammatory drug that was as effective in rheumatoid arthritis as indometacin [ ] and phenylbutazone [ ]. However, because of hepatotoxicity and carcinogenicity (hepatoma) in preclinical studies and hemotoxicity and gastrointestinal adverse effects in humans, diftalone was withdrawn by its manufacturer [ ].
