Spermatic Cord Block

Indications and Clinical Considerations

Spermatic cord block is used to provide surgical anesthesia for scrotal surgery, pain management of painful conditions of the scrotum, and postoperative pain management following scrotal surgeries ( Figs. 144.1 and 144.2 ). The ultrasound-guided approach to spermatic cord block not only improves the accuracy and safety of needle placement, it also precludes the need to identify the pubic tubercle, which can be challenging in obese patients when performing this procedure using the landmark approach.
