von Brunn nests


Definition

  • Reactive proliferative change in the form of solid urothelial nests beneath urothelium, seen along the entire urinary tract, considered a variant of the normal urothelial histology, and may also occur as a result of local inflammation.

Clinical features

Epidemiology

  • One of the most common nonneoplastic urothelial proliferations

  • Present in 85% of urinary bladders in autopsy series
