Introduction

The development of indoor tanning over the last 20 years has allowed the public to receive ever greater doses of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, all with the sole purpose of cosmetic tanning. The use of indoor tanning is increasing. At the same time, the incidence of skin cancer has reached epidemic proportions. It is quite likely that the popularity of indoor tanning plays a role in this epidemic and will continue to do so in the future.
