DESCRIPTION OF FINDINGS

  • Case A: An axial contrast-enhanced CT scan ( A ) demonstrates an enhancing mass displacing the left internal carotid artery anteriorly (arrow) with prominent internal vascularity. Axial postcontrast (with fat saturation, B) T1- and axial T2-weighted ( C ) images through the neck show an enhancing mass that is displacing the left carotid artery anteriorly with internal flow voids on the T2-weighted sequences. An octreotide scan with fused single photon emission CT images ( D ) demonstrate intense indium-111 octreotide uptake in the mass.

  • Case B: Axial T2-weighted and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images ( A and B ) demonstrate an enhancing, T2 hyperintense mass that displaces the carotid artery anteriorly (arrow). Signal characteristics are consistent with a schwannoma.
